Kent Roller Girls took part in this year’s Race For Life on Sunday to raise awareness and money to help research into this cruel disease. Some of us ran, some walked but no skating this time! Most of us know someone close who has been affected by cancer as 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
We’ve raised over £400 so far and are still hoping to add to our total. Click here to donate!
On Sunday 29th July, a car-full of Kents drove to Dorney Lake in Berkshire in the pouring rain, strapped on their skates and skated over 26 miles each for charity. This may seem crazy to many people but with fundraisers we’re always aiming for ‘the crazier the better’ and this time it paid off, quite literally! So far our marathon skaters have raised over £500 for Pilgrim’s Hospices, our chosen charity this year, with more donations still trickling in.
The influx of donations for the skaters has pushed KRG over this years target of £750. With 5 months and many more charity events already planned, the team have now increased their target to £1000. The generosity and support from team-mates, friends and family definitely kept the marathon team going as they battled the elements.
We interviewed each of the marathon skaters to find out how and why they took on this marathon challenge.

Thank you to everyone that donated to our collection for Oasis Domestic Abuse Service and their clients.
We visited the Oasis shop in Margate on Saturday 4th March to hand over your generous donations. Everything you donated will go to help those in need, who often have fled their home bringing few their belongings with them.
If you’d like to get involved and help Oasis see http://www.oasisdaservice.org/donate/
This year, KRG’s chosen charity is CLASP – Counselling Life Advice and Suicide Prevention.
We’ve done lots of excellent fundraising before including everything from sponsored marathons on skates to collecting tins and running raffles at games, so we’re hoping to make this year as successful for CLASP.
CLASP’s aim and mission is to confront the stigma surrounding mental and stress related illnesses, daily emotional trauma and suicide.
Want to get involved? CLASP are holding one of their ‘Walking out of Darkness’ events on Saturday 13th May 2017 in London.
If you want to find out more about this event, or their work in general, see www.claspcharity.com or check their facebook page.
On May 29th members of Kent Roller Girls will be skating a marathon at the South Coast Roll in aid of Canterbury Food Bank.
The South Coast Roll is an annual event held at Goodwood race track in West Sussex. Those aiming to skate a full marathon (that’s 26 miles!!) need to complete 11 laps of the undulating track, whatever the weather. Last year saw our skaters battling strong winds and rain so we’re hoping that things improve on that front this time round!
