Kent Roller Girls’ last 2 British Championship games were just 2 weeks apart, with KRG vs Plymouth City Roller Derby on July 3rd followed by KRG vs Cornwall Roller Derby in the Championship Tier 3 South final on July 17th. These last two games would determine, firstly, whether the league would be heading to playoffs, and secondly, whether they would be heading there as champions.
Game 4 – vs Plymouth City Roller Derby:
Kent looked strong from the outset, racking up points before Plymouth managed to get any on the board. Plymouth were determined but only managed 13 to Kent’s 158 by half-time.

Kent Roller Girls welcomed Surrey to the Herne Bay Arena this weekend for our third game in Tier 3 South of the British Roller Derby Championships.
The county match-up was our toughest game yet in the tournament, but our preparation showed with the KRG being the first to score, taking the lead to 17-0 after the first few jams.

On May 29th members of Kent Roller Girls will be skating a marathon at the South Coast Roll in aid of Canterbury Food Bank.
The South Coast Roll is an annual event held at Goodwood race track in West Sussex. Those aiming to skate a full marathon (that’s 26 miles!!) need to complete 11 laps of the undulating track, whatever the weather. Last year saw our skaters battling strong winds and rain so we’re hoping that things improve on that front this time round!

Position: Head Referee
Story behind the name: When I started in derby I was a security dog handler, which involved guarding places with my dog. Cerberus in greek mythology was the 3 headed hound that guarded the gates of the underworld. So I mashed my name with the legend and it all kinda fitted together.
Favourite Ref hand signal: Nowadays it’s the lead jammer signal. Start with my right hand behind my back to remind me my jammer is on their initial pass then when they get lead jammer I fire my hand out super quick. Although back when I started reffing the signal for misconduct was doing an “I’m a little teapot dance” which I kinda miss.

We started our campaign for the British Roller Derby Championships in style this weekend (19th March) with a decisive win. The 6 hour journey to Penzance was worth it as we took the win, 219-109, against North Devon’s Grin N’ Barum. This first game puts us second in the table, with a game in hand over the current leaders Cornwall.

Roller Derby skaters come in many forms, ages and genders… and that includes Mum’s!
So this Mother’s Day we’ve asked some of the mums on our team to tell us about how Roller Derby fits in to their family lives:

Story behind the name & number: The name came from a friend of mine who used to skate with the team. It’s a play on my name and the oh so awesome Ellen DeGeneres, and add to that the fact we are both gay, it was sort of perfect! After that it kind of stuck, to the point that I changed my old name [Ed: Hellen’s previous skate name was Hell O’Mighty] to this because I liked it so much. The number 2 is my lucky number so was a no brainer.
Jammer or Blocker: I’m most happy blocking but I can jam too. I want to work hard at being a double threat.

This February we are aiming to collect 500 foody things to donate to Canterbury Food Bank
In order to collect enough variety of goods, and in an attempt to get everything CFB needs for their parcels, we’ve given each day of the week a theme…
- Macaroni Monday (think all things pasta and rice)
- Tin Food Tuesday (tuna, tomatoes, vegetables, beans, soup and such like)
- Wash Up Wednesday (cleaning products and washing powder and toiletries)
- Thirsty Thursday (no alcohol allowed, just drinks like tea, coffee and fruit squash)
- Baby Food Friday (speaks for itself, but you could always throw some nappies and wipes in there too!)
- Sweet Things Saturday (rice pudding, biscuits and custard)
- Sweetcorn Sunday (for everyones favourite tinned veg)
But don’t feel you have to stick to our plan, any donations are welcome at any time.
You can either give your donations to the Kent roller girl of your choice, or get in touch with us on any of our social media platforms and we’ll arrange a rendezvous.
CFB has specific things that they are in desperate need of for their clients, so please have a look at the list below before parting with your hard earn cash. And please ensure any donations have at least 3 months left on their best before date.
